Large and rare ancient Egyptian steatite scarab decorated with palm tree flanked by representations of the Nile god Hapi. The tree is the Sema Taouy sign, the sign of the unification of the two lands, being upper and lower Egypt. The ancient name the Egyptians gave to their country was Taouy, meaning the two lands. (The other name was Kemet: the Black Earth pointing to the very firtile deposit of the Nile river) For comparable see: The British Museum, Accession Number EA53376 Date: Egypt, New Kingdom, ca. 1550 - 1070 B. C. Material: Steatite Size: ca. 3 cm; c. 1. 18 inches Condition: good worn but good condition Provenance: Ex collection of P. S. T. (New York) . He inherited it 1965 from his father, who bought it in the 1920s from David Proskey, New York Coin & Stamp Co. The authenticity of the item is unconditionally guaranteed.
