A new top model was introduced by Mercedes in 2007: the CLK 63 AMG. A convertible with a state-of-the-art engine from in-house tuner AMG. The specifications are impressive: the 6. 2L V8 produces 481 hp at 6,800 rpm. We hear you think: ‘Doesn’t it have a 6. 3? ’ True, but the block still has 6,208cc – not bad either. At 5,000 rpm, the maximum torque is 630 Nm. Contrary to what we are used to, this engine, for the first time in the history of AMG, was fully developed by the in-house tuner. Just as remarkable is the fact that AMG did not use a compressor for this engine. The large cylinder volume in the 6. 2L V8 creates unprecedented forces in this incredible eight-cylinder. When you think of an ideal combination of sportsmanship and luxury, you don't immediately think of a Mercedes CLK 63 AMG convertible. For the collector, only 1,000 CLK 63 AMG convertibles were produced. It’s overwhelming, no words can describe it when you put the seven-speed automatic in sport mode and give it full throttle. The growl turns into a roar, driver and passenger are forcefully pressed against the leather seats, the car shudders whilst the rear wheels search for grip for a split second and then you speed off as if you are hurled out of a catapult. 0-100 in just 4. 8 seconds. This CLK63 AMG convertible has only driven 86,000 km (history known) .
