Photograph signed ("W. Somerset Maugham"), in black ink, on the mount of a striking portrait of Maugham from the chest up with him leaning his cheek on his right hand. Signed in full. The photograph is stamped "Pirie MacDonald, Photographer-of-Men, New York." The image measures approximately 6" x 9" and is affixed to MacDonald's original mounting board which measures 11" x 14". On the back of the board is imprinted an array of information of MacDonald's awards and accomplishments and address. A further affixed label indicates this photograph of Maugham was taken in 1935 and signed by him in 1947. An excellent and rare "soft focus" image. Very good.
