SMALL DAYTONA, REF 6239 STAINLESS STEEL CHRONOGRAPH WRISTWATCH WITH BRACELET CIRCA 1966

Rolex

Dial: silvered
Calibre: Valjoux cal. 72 manual winding, 17 jewels
Case: stainless steel, screw-down back
Case number: 1'463'640
Closure: stainless steel Rolex Oyster bracelet and folding clasp
Dimensions: 36 mm
Signed: case, dial and movement
Accessories: none

Provenance:
Bearing a 1.4 million serial number, the present watch is an early example of reference 6239 featuring a small Daytona signature and the correct bezel calibrated to 300 units. During the beginning of the Daytona’s production, Rolex experimented with various dial configurations in order to realize its design for the Cosmograph Daytona. It was a few years later that Rolex definitively printed the "Daytona" designation above the subsidiary register positioned at 6 o'clock.

The case is in nice crisp condition with very easy to read numbers between the lugs. The extendable Oyster bracelet is also original and stamped for the 2nd quarter on 1966 and the dial carries the T SWISS T signature at the bottom of the dial to confirm the use of tritium on the dial.
