SET OF SIX WEDGWOOD BONE CHINA 'PAOLOZZI' PLATES, 'VARIATIONS ON A GEOMETRIC THEME' circa 1987, printed Portland vase marks, number 12 in a limited edition of 200 sets, designed in 1971 by Sir Eduardo Paolozzi (1924-2005), dia: 10 1/2 in.; each plate enriched overall with geometric gilt banding, four dichromatic, one trichromatic and one white, mounted on two black velvet matts within oblong giltwood frames, h: 38 1/2 x w: 15 1/2 in., accompanied by an original pink Lucite storage box, dia: 10 3/8 in. Catalogue Note:
Professor Eduardo Luigi Paolozzi, CBE, RA was a Scottish graphic artist and sculptor, known as one of the pioneers of Pop Art. Previously a surrealist, in the 1960s he produced a series of striking abstract geometric silk screen prints (the medium which inspired the design of these plates). A public and widely known geometric design by Paolozzi is the mosaic patterned walls of the Tottenham Court Road tube station, London.
