Scuola Italiana (XVIII) - Madonna del Rosario con san Domenico, san Pietro e san Paolo

[ translate ]

\Artist: Scuola Italiana (XVIII)
Technique: Oil on canvas\Signature: Not signed\Dimensions: 93_77_5_cm
Ancient painting, oil on canvas, from the 18th century, depicting the Madonna of the Rosary with Saint Dominic, Saint Peter and Saint Paul. Suggestive canvas, of which we appreciate a refined execution technique and refined colors. The stylistic and compositional traits suggest the attribution to an artist active in northern Italy during the 18th century, with peculiar characters that evoke comparison with the works of the famous Turin painter Claudio Francesco Beaumont (1694-1766) , considered the greatest Piedmontese painter of the eighteenth century and among the largest in Italy. The work depicts the Virgin Mary and the Child who together with Saints Dominic, founder of the Dominican order, Peter and Paul, form the central core of the canvas. The Madonna tenderly supports her Son with one hand while with the other she holds the Rosary that Saint Dominic received from the Virgin as a weapon of prayer and preaching. Further down the two saints Peter and Paul hold up a writing with the Latin phrase "Go ahead and preach" while below them Saint Dominic is depicted with the iconographic signs of the Dominicans: the lilies symbol of chastity and the dog he holds between his teeth a burning torch, symbol of the Christian faith. The stylistic analysis of our canvas highlights a chromatic range that makes use of particularly lively and brightly contrasting colors, just as the types of faces and the way of draping the clothes seem to adhere to the Beaumont style. Our canvas therefore appears to be attributable to a follower or a pupil of the Piedmontese master. Overall in fairly good condition considering the age of the painting. Note some scattered restoration points and some slight unveiling and cracking of the pictorial surface, however nothing particularly relevant. There are no conservation problems. The original canvas has an old relining that does not seem to need any intervention. A fine craquelè is visible in relation to the time. The frame would appear to have been replaced during the last century. Framed in a beautiful frame from the posthumous era, which has defects, restorations and omissions. It should be noted that we will do our best to ensure adequate packaging, but given that the decorations of the same appear quite fragile, we advise that some parts of the same may become detached during transport. Canvas measures: 76 x 62 cm. Frame measurements: 93 x 77 cm. Work accompanied by a certificate of photographic authenticity, as per current legislation. Shipping via insured express courier and packaging carried out with the utmost care.
