Notes: Within the bounds of military watches collecting, very few timepieces rise up to the status of chimeras, and the Tudor Submariner 7928 made for the US Naval Submarine Base -SUBASE-, is for sure one of them. Although Tudor’s military history is usually associated with the French Navy (Marine Nationale), few other military divisions employed Tudor watches, especially Submariners. Information on these armed forces is scarce, but the couple of SUBASE Submariners that have surfaced remains a fact. The United States Navy built permanent and temporary submarine bases around the world to maintain its fleet of submarines and serve the needs of the crews. Among these needs, the Search and Rescue -SAR- unit: the present watch is accompanied by an original SUBASE military jacket hailing from this unit, featuring a patch depicting a staff of Asclepius merged with an anchor. This jacket has been most probably used during service by the same naval officer owner of the watch. According to our research, this Submariner 7928 was delivered to the Naval Submarine Base Bangor in Washington, that has since been renamed Naval Submarine Base Kitsap after merging with former Naval Station Bremerton. To the best of our knowledge the present watch is the second Tudor Submariner SUBASE ever appeared in the market, becoming a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own an exceedingly rare military timepiece.
