4to. [12], 191, 190-210 pp. With an engraved title-page dated 1705 as a frontispiece, engraved (with contemporary hand-colouring in outline) large folding map, and 30 plates, 8 folding. Rebound and fully conserved in recent, full panelled calf, letter-piece gilt and dated at foot. Engraved title-page, one folding plate and map lined, some corners infilled and supported. Small library stamp to foot of title-page and old tape stains to fore-edge of engraved title-page. Minimal staining and browning and a few corners discretely supported. This account was originally printed in Dutch (1704) at the direction of Burgomaster Witzen before being faithfully done into English in this edition. Recognised as one of the most detailed and accurate descriptions of inner Asia up to that time , it also contained the first European account of the Gobi desert. ESTC T55175. Cordier 2468. Lach & Van Kley. Lust 519.
