19th C. Chinese Qing Dynasty Wood & Reed Box w/ Clasp

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th century CE. A unique reed and lacquered bamboo box with a brass clasp and lid hinge. The carved wooden box, ovoid in form, rests on a wooden foot decorated with red lacquer. The exterior is adorned with a register of woven reeds covering the bamboo frame. The clasp is a simple brass catch with two loops that could fit a separate lock to secure the box's contents. Size: 8" L x 5" W x 4.5" H (20.3 cm x 12.7 cm x 11.4 cm)

Provenance: private Morrison, Colorado, USA collection, acquired 2008; ex-Asian Treasures, Denver, Colorado, USA
