Buzz Aldrin Signed Apollo XI Lunar Plaque Replica

Handsome reproduction of Apollo XI Lunar Plaque originally left by American astronauts on the surface of the moon after their historic moonwalk. Signed by Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin (born 1930) in black felt tip marker as "Buzz Aldrin" in lower right corner of brass plate. In near fine condition. 10.5" x 13.25" x .75". The oblong brass plate is mounted on a beveled mahogany finished wooden plaque.

The inscription "Here men from the planet Earth first set foot upon the moon July 1969, A.D. We came in peace for all mankind" appears below a depiction of the two halves of the earth in frieze at top. Below the message are the facsimile signatures of Neil Armstrong (1930-2012), Michael Collins (born 1930), Buzz Aldrin, and 37th U.S. President Richard Nixon (1913-1994). American astronauts first stepped onto the moon's gray and granular surface on July 21, 1969. While on the moon, the astronauts took photographs, placed a TV camera, collected geological samples, set up seismic and laser experiments, and even received a celebratory phone call from President Nixon. They planted an American flag on the surface, and also left behind the original plaque; it was slightly smaller, made of stainless steel, and attached to the ladder of the lunar module landing gear strut.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
